North Holland; c. 1460-1470. Added miniatures: Utrecht, Gethsemane Master (illuminator); c. 1460

Material:

Vellum, ff. 200, 172x128 (85x60) mm, 17 lines, littera textualis, Binding: 15th-/16th-century brown leather; blind panelstamped (rebacked)

Decoration:

Decorated initials with border decoration in North Holland style (`Haarlem-bunches-of-twigs'; ff. 56r, 110r, 132r; 25v, 31r, etc.) and `Haarlem acanthus'; f. 16r)
Added: 4 full-page miniatures (95x60 mm) with border decoration

Provenance:

J.I. Doedes (book-plate and signature), his sale in 1898 at Beijers in Utrecht (May 4-5, p. 123, lot e). Purchased in 1909 as part of the collection of bookbindings of Anton W.M. Mensing (1866-1936) of Amsterdam (no. 74)

Annotation:

Utrecht calendar: besides the usual Utrecht entries feasts in red include St. Jeroen (August 17), St. Eligius (December 1). Litany: St. Augustine first among the confessors. Possibly written in the Southern Netherlands (Southern Netherlandish script)
