Bruges; c. 1450-1475. Added miniatures and border decoration: Northern France; c. 1500-1520

Material:

Vellum, ff. 81, 167x121 (105x65) mm, 19 lines, littera textualis, Binding: 18th(?)-century purple velvet

Decoration:

Decorated initials with border decoration (ff. 31v, 39r, 41v, 43v, 45v, etc.); penwork initials with pen-flourishes throughout
Added: 6 full-page miniatures (111x66 mm) with border decoration; border decoration on text-pages opposite miniatures

Provenance:

Joseph Désiré Lupus (d. 1822) of Brussels; purchased with his collection in 1819 by King William I of The Netherlands; kept from 1819-1822 at the Musée Lupus in the Palace of Charles de Lorraine at Brussels (no. A 25) and transferred in 1823 to the KB

Annotation:

Bruges calendar: feasts in red include St. Basil (14 June) and St. Donatius (14 October). Textpages opposite miniatures still show original decorated initials; later border decoration probably applied over original one
